April Johnson, MEd., CCC-SLP
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist

Meet April, the dedicated speech-language pathologist behind Skill Builders Speech Therapy. April earned her undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Deaf Studies from Valdosta State University (GA) in 2016, and her graduate degree in Communication Disorders from the same university in 2018. Specializing in communication development for toddlers and preschoolers, April has worked with patients of all ages and various diagnoses including Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, and developmental delay.

April’s mission behind Skill Builders is to provide a unique therapy approach by working with children and families in their natural environment. Although April may be the “expert” in speech and language development, she values parents as the true experts on their child, and provides them with the support, strategies, and resources to ensure progress long after the therapy session has ended. April believes that parent involvement is essential to each child's success in speech therapy, and she engages the whole family through everyday routines, songs, and motivating activities. As a mother herself, April truly understands how busy life can be for families, which is why she makes flexibility and convenience a key part of her practice.

Outside of work, you can find April spending time with her family - her husband, two sons, and three dogs. She enjoys listening to audiobooks during commutes, binge watching television shows once her boys are asleep, and DIYing crafts to give away to the people she loves.
